Acupuncture in Autumn

autumn morning

Have you noticed the beautiful mornings recently? Autumn mist rising from the fields around us, before unfolding into skies so blue they take your breath away?

Have you been tidying your garden/throwing out old things/suddenly felt the urge to get rid of things you no longer need?

It’s autumn so energy is drawing in around us: as days grow shorter & cooler it’s time to retreat from the outward yang of summer to a quieter place of yin.  In Five-Element Acupuncture, autumn is the season of the metal element: of connection and loss.  Linked to the lungs and colon, the metal element gives us structure and precision. It highlights our ability to appreciate quality (such as the heart stopping beauty of a sunny October day).  The metal element allows us to let go of what is no longer needed (hence the throwing out).

When we’re in balance, we move through the seasons easily, adapting to each one naturally.   However, many people start to struggle when the nights start to close in.  Many patients come for treatment during times of seasonal change, or to help them through the autumn and winter. If you need a top up treatment – or help to get you through the autumn, get in touch.
