Acupuncture for Fertility

Much as Western Medicine and the IVF industry leads you to believe that there isn’t much you can do to improve your fertility naturally, this is not correct.

Diet, lifestyle changes and acupuncture can help increase your chances of becoming pregnant.

Acupuncture can help both male and female fertility. It has been shown to:

  • boost blood flow to the ovaries and uterus, helping to thicken the endometrial lining
  • regulate fertility hormones and the menstrual cycle
  • improve birth rates of women undergoing IVF or ICSI
  • improve sperm maturation and increase testosterone levels

One of the greatest strengths of Five Element Acupuncture is the fact that it deals with emotional health as well as physical: helping with the stress and anxiety that often goes with having problems conceiving.

I first came to acupuncture as a patient, trying to improve my own fertility – full details here. It worked: my acupuncture baby is now nearly 6’ tall!

I understand the questions that you hate being asked, the feelings of jealousy when a friend gets pregnant (and the guilt afterwards).  Having been through a couple of IVF cycles, I know what it is like: trying to look as if life is normal on the outside, whilst so many emotions are going on within. My patients tell me that this outlook has really helped them during their IVF and ICSI cycles, as well as those trying to get pregnant naturally.

My aim is to support and assist you along your fertility journey. Whether you are hoping to conceive naturally or are looking for acupuncture to go safely alongside IVF, I’ll do everything I can to help. This includes out of hours appointments during IVF cycles and being at the end of a phone during the two week wait for my patients if needed.

I recommend that you start acupuncture treatment 3 months+ before starting IVF. This gives time to get your body & mind into the best possible state of health prior to starting treatment.

A blue line… what next?

Acupuncture can be used safely throughout pregnancy, and post-partum, to support you at this important time. Acupuncture during pregnancy should be performed by a qualified & trained acupuncturist: certain points are contra-indicated.
